AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 603

AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 603 by replacing everything after the enacting clause with the following:

"Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section 10-22.3g as follows:

(105 ILCS 5/10-22.3g new)

Sec. 10-22.3g. Insurance coverage for students; catastrophic injuries. A school board in a school district maintaining grades 9 through 12 shall maintain catastrophic health insurance coverage, with up to a $25 million limit, for students who sustain an injury that results in medical expenses of $50,000 or more while participating in an athletic activity under the jurisdiction of or sponsored or controlled by the school district. The school board may require that the parents or guardians of students who participate in such athletic activities pay a portion of the cost of the insurance coverage.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.".
