 1                    AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1545

 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend Senate Bill 1545 as follows:
 3    on page 2, line 28, after "requirement.",  by  inserting  the
 4    following:
 5    "For   routine  inspections,  fire  officials  shall  provide
 6    written notice to the superintendent of the  school  district
 7    to schedule a date for the fire safety check."; and

 8    on  page 5, line 15, after "department", by inserting ", fire
 9    protection district,"; and

10    on page 5, line 15, by deleting "or both"; and

11    on page  6,  by  replacing  lines  11  through  18  with  the
12    following:
13        "The  regional  superintendent  of  schools shall submit,
14    within  10  working  days,  a   copy   of   the   plans   and
15    specifications  for  review  by  the local fire department or
16    fire  protection  district  where   the   school   is   being
17    constructed  or  altered  if  the  fire  department  or  fire
18    protection   district   requests  such  a  review.  The  fire
19    department or fire protection district  may  comment  on  the
20    plans   and   specifications   based  on  the  building  code
21    authorized  in  Section  2-3.12  of  the  Code  and,  if  any
22    corrective  action  must  be  taken,  shall  respond  to  the

 1    regional superintendent  of  schools  within  15  days  after
 2    receipt  of  the  plans and specifications. The Office of the
 3    State Fire Marshal may review the plans and specifications at
 4    the  request  of  the  fire  department  or  fire  protection
 5    district. The review must be conducted  at  no  cost  to  the
 6    school   district.   Upon  being  notified  by  the  regional
 7    superintendent of schools  that  corrective  action  must  be
 8    taken  to  resolve  a  violation, the school board shall take
 9    corrective action within one year, except  that  a  violation
10    that    presents    imminent   danger   must   be   addressed
11    immediately."; and

12    on page 6, by deleting everything after line 19.
