      New Act
          Creates the Truss Construction Fire Safety Act.  Provides
      that the Office of the  State  Fire  Marshall  shall  require
      identifying  emblems  on  buildings that have a roof or floor
      with  truss  construction.    Provides  that  the  county  in
      unincorporated areas and  the  municipality  in  incorporated
      areas  shall  enforce  the  Act  and authorizes the county or
      municipality to charge  a  reasonable  registration  fee  for
      buildings requiring the emblem.  Effective immediately.

 1        AN ACT concerning fire safety.
 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:
 4        Section 1.  Short title.  This Act may be  cited  as  the
 5    Truss Construction Fire Safety Act.
 6        Section 5.  Truss construction emblem.
 7        (a)  The   Office   of  the  State  Fire  Marshall  shall
 8    promulgate reasonable regulations to require that a  standard
 9    identifying emblem be affixed to the front of structures with
10    truss construction.
11        (b)  The  truss  construction  emblem shall have a bright
12    and reflective color or be made of reflective material.   The
13    shape  of  the  emblem shall be an isosceles triangle and the
14    size shall be 12 inches horizontally by 6 inches  vertically.
15    The  following  letters  shall  be printed on the emblem in a
16    size and color to make them conspicuous:
17        "F" to signify a floor with truss construction;
18        "R" to signify a roof with truss construction; and
19        "F/R" to  signify  both  a  floor  and  roof  with  truss
20    construction.
21    The  emblem  shall  be permanently affixed to the left of the
22    main entrance door at a height between 4 to 6 feet above  the
23    ground  and shall be installed and maintained by the building
24    owner.
25        Section 10.  Exemption.
26        (a)  Detached one and  2  family  residential  structures
27    with  truss  construction that are not part of a planned unit
28    development shall be exempt from the provisions of this  Act.
29    However,  the  governing body of a county or municipality may
30    require  by  ordinance  that  the  emblems  be   affixed   on

 1    structures with truss construction.
 2        (b)  Individual  structures and dwelling units with truss
 3    construction that are part  of  a  planned  unit  development
 4    shall  not be required to have an identifying emblem if there
 5    is a truss construction emblem affixed at  each  entrance  to
 6    the development.
 7        Section   15.  Registration   fee.    The  Act  shall  be
 8    administered and enforced by counties in unincorporated areas
 9    and municipalities in  incorporated  areas.   The  county  or
10    municipality  may charge a reasonable registration fee to the
11    owners of buildings requiring a truss construction emblem for
12    reasonable costs in administering and enforcing this Act.
13        Section 99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect  upon
14    becoming law.
