HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Megan Ervin, Miss Illinois 2012, as she tours the State speaking at schools about CHARACTER COUNTS!, appearing at a variety of community and charitable events, and serving as the Illinois Goodwill Ambassador for the Children's Miracle Network, the official platform of the Miss America organization; and

WHEREAS, Through her State platform, "The Heptathlon of Healthy Habits", Megan Ervin introduces students and adults alike to the idea of a holistic approach to health, encouraging a healthy mind, body, and spirit through the use of 7 core components within the "Heptathlon"; these 7 components include fitness & physical activity, nutrition, community service, reading & education, spirituality, recycling, and avoiding distracted driving; the program emphasises that true change takes more than a temporary adjustment but requires a permanent lifestyle change; and

WHEREAS, As Miss Illinois 2012, Megan Ervin competed with 52 other title holders from across the country for the title of Miss America at the 2013 Miss America Pageant in January at the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada; and

WHEREAS, Megan Ervin was crowned Miss Illinois on June 30, 2012, at the Marion Cultural and Civic Center in Marion; and

WHEREAS, Megan Ervin received her bachelor's of science in exercise science with a dance minor from Western Illinois University and plans to obtain a masters in exercise physiology; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Megan Ervin, Miss Illinois 2012, for all that she has contributed to the well-being of the State, thank her for her service, and wish her well in all her future endeavours; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Megan Ervin as an expression of our esteem and respect.
