| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Steven DeWayne Powers of rural | 4 | | Illinois City, who passed away on December 16, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Steven Powers was born to Dale Forrest and | 6 | | Charlotte (Poindexter) Powers in Muscatine, Iowa on October | 7 | | 14, 1948; he graduated from Columbus Community High School in | 8 | | 1967; he participated in many sports and clubs while in high | 9 | | school with his greatest accomplishment being making Eagle | 10 | | Scout in 1963; in the summer of 1967, he was drafted into the | 11 | | U.S. Marines but got lost while reporting for duty and started | 12 | | his service with the U.S. Army; he married
Tonya Ann Garrett on | 13 | | December 12, 1970; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Steven Powers had a 22 year career in the Army; he | 15 | | retired in the winter of 1989 with the rank of Master Sergeant; | 16 | | once retired, he was called back to serve as the family liaison | 17 | | for the Muscatine National Guard; in 1992, he attended | 18 | | Davenport Barber College and started his barber career, which | 19 | | lasted until his retirement in November of 2020; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Steven Powers was preceded in death by his | 21 | | parents, Dale and Charlotte Powers, and his sister, Cathy | 22 | | (Powers) Arola; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Steven Powers is survived by his wife, Tonya | 2 | | Powers; his son, Aaron (Wendy) Powers; his daughter, Tammy | 3 | | (Mike) Brown; his stepmother, Anna (Clark) Powers; his | 4 | | brother, Lonnie (Jackie) Powers; his eight grandchildren, | 5 | | Leighana Franks, Steven Franks, Krystina Franks, Jarrett | 6 | | Brown, Jennica Brown, Charles Powers, Daniel Powers and Erick | 7 | | Powers; his two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Walsh and one | 8 | | on the way; and his many friends and family; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| 11 | | Steven DeWayne Powers and extend our sincere
condolences to | 12 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it | 13 | | further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
