SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Steven DeWayne Powers of rural
4Illinois City, who passed away on December 16, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Steven Powers was born to Dale Forrest and
6Charlotte (Poindexter) Powers in Muscatine, Iowa on October
714, 1948; he graduated from Columbus Community High School in
81967; he participated in many sports and clubs while in high
9school with his greatest accomplishment being making Eagle
10Scout in 1963; in the summer of 1967, he was drafted into the
11U.S. Marines but got lost while reporting for duty and started
12his service with the U.S. Army; he married Tonya Ann Garrett on
13December 12, 1970; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Steven Powers had a 22 year career in the Army; he
15retired in the winter of 1989 with the rank of Master Sergeant;
16once retired, he was called back to serve as the family liaison
17for the Muscatine National Guard; in 1992, he attended
18Davenport Barber College and started his barber career, which
19lasted until his retirement in November of 2020; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Steven Powers was preceded in death by his
21parents, Dale and Charlotte Powers, and his sister, Cathy
22(Powers) Arola; and

1    WHEREAS, Steven Powers is survived by his wife, Tonya
2Powers; his son, Aaron (Wendy) Powers; his daughter, Tammy
3(Mike) Brown; his stepmother, Anna (Clark) Powers; his
4brother, Lonnie (Jackie) Powers; his eight grandchildren,
5Leighana Franks, Steven Franks, Krystina Franks, Jarrett
6Brown, Jennica Brown, Charles Powers, Daniel Powers and Erick
7Powers; his two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Walsh and one
8on the way; and his many friends and family; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Steven DeWayne Powers and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Steven Powers as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
