| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Ronald Allen of Naperville, who passed | 4 | | away on December 2, 2016, at the age of 73; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Allen founded the A. Allen Insurance Agency | 6 | | in Chicago's Austin community after graduating from Chicago | 7 | | State University; he had previously worked for the United | 8 | | States Postal Service and as a business teacher at King High | 9 | | School in Chicago; he was one of the first African American | 10 | | insurance agents for the Allstate Insurance Co. in Chicago, and | 11 | | maintained an affiliation with them for 42 years, retiring in | 12 | | 2009; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Allen was a social activist in DuPage | 14 | | County; he spent his retirement active in the DuPage County | 15 | | Democratic Party and founded the Unity Partnership outreach | 16 | | group to foster trust and goodwill between police and county | 17 | | residents; he served as a precinct committeeman in Naperville | 18 | | Township and was an active member of the DuPage County NAACP; | 19 | | and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Allen was an active member of the DuPage | 21 | | AME Church in Lisle and served on the DuPage Diversity steering | 22 | | committee; he served on the DuPage County Crime Stoppers Board |

| 1 | | of Directors, the Chicago State University Alumni Board, and | 2 | | the National African American Insurance Association Board of | 3 | | Directors; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Allen hosted his own radio show, "The | 5 | | Financial Forum", that aired on WVON-AM; he enjoyed the game of | 6 | | Whist so much that in 2014 he wrote a book, "The Evolution of | 7 | | Bid Whist", which not only offered playing strategy but traced | 8 | | the history of the game to the Civil War; he was an avid | 9 | | Chicago Cubs fan; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Allen is survived by his wife, Carol; his | 11 | | children, Keith, Mark, and Vera; and his granddaughter, | 12 | | Jasmine; therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 15 | | Ronald Allen, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | 16 | | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Ronald Allen as an expression of our | 19 | | deepest sympathy.
