SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ronald Allen of Naperville, who passed
4away on December 2, 2016, at the age of 73; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ronald Allen founded the A. Allen Insurance Agency
6in Chicago's Austin community after graduating from Chicago
7State University; he had previously worked for the United
8States Postal Service and as a business teacher at King High
9School in Chicago; he was one of the first African American
10insurance agents for the Allstate Insurance Co. in Chicago, and
11maintained an affiliation with them for 42 years, retiring in
122009; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ronald Allen was a social activist in DuPage
14County; he spent his retirement active in the DuPage County
15Democratic Party and founded the Unity Partnership outreach
16group to foster trust and goodwill between police and county
17residents; he served as a precinct committeeman in Naperville
18Township and was an active member of the DuPage County NAACP;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Ronald Allen was an active member of the DuPage
21AME Church in Lisle and served on the DuPage Diversity steering
22committee; he served on the DuPage County Crime Stoppers Board

1of Directors, the Chicago State University Alumni Board, and
2the National African American Insurance Association Board of
3Directors; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Ronald Allen hosted his own radio show, "The
5Financial Forum", that aired on WVON-AM; he enjoyed the game of
6Whist so much that in 2014 he wrote a book, "The Evolution of
7Bid Whist", which not only offered playing strategy but traced
8the history of the game to the Civil War; he was an avid
9Chicago Cubs fan; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ronald Allen is survived by his wife, Carol; his
11children, Keith, Mark, and Vera; and his granddaughter,
12Jasmine; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Ronald Allen, and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
16friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Ronald Allen as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
