| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Robert V. Lofgren of Moline, who passed | 4 | | away on May 1, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren was born on May 22, 1925 in Moline; | 6 | | his parents were Vern and Lydia Koenig Lofgren; he married | 7 | | Sylvia Tomlinson on November 30, 1952 in Osco; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren proudly served in the United States | 9 | | Army during World War II; during his time in the service, he | 10 | | was a member of the United States Army Air Corps Band, where he | 11 | | played the clarinet; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren attended the University of | 13 | | Illinois and later graduated from Augustana College; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren worked for Ametek in East Moline | 15 | | and Rock Island Lumber, where he was involved in the planning | 16 | | of over 200 houses in Rock Island County; he later worked as a | 17 | | banker for Metro Bank in East Moline, where he retired at the | 18 | | position of vice president; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren was a member of First Baptist | 20 | | Church in Moline, where he served on several committees; he was |

| 1 | | also a 50-year member of the East Moline Rotary, a 50-year | 2 | | Mason, and a member of the Black Hawk Shrine Club; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren played music his whole life, | 4 | | starting out with the clarinet, saxophone, and piano; he was an | 5 | | accomplished pianist who organized a number of jazz and dance | 6 | | bands; he had a one-piece to an 18-piece ensemble and played | 7 | | with the Jack Manthy Orchestra; he led the 1976 Bicentennial | 8 | | Celebration along with Bob Hope, Barbara McNair, and Bernadette | 9 | | Peters; he loved big band music and was a longtime friend of | 10 | | Louie Bellson; he also wrote music, all by memory; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren was preceded in death by his | 12 | | parents; his wife, Sylvia; his granddaughter, Jenna; and his | 13 | | sister, Shirley Lofgren; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren is survived by his son, Jay (Lisa) | 15 | | Lofgren; his daughters, Sheri Helmel and Tracy (Steve) Pettett; | 16 | | his grandchildren, Nicholas, Kurtis, Kyle, Holly, Christopher, | 17 | | and Brian; and his great-granddaughters, Brielle and Adelina; | 18 | | therefore, be it
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | 21 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Robert V. Lofgren; and | 22 | | be it further
