SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert V. Lofgren of Moline, who passed
4away on May 1, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren was born on May 22, 1925 in Moline;
6his parents were Vern and Lydia Koenig Lofgren; he married
7Sylvia Tomlinson on November 30, 1952 in Osco; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren proudly served in the United States
9Army during World War II; during his time in the service, he
10was a member of the United States Army Air Corps Band, where he
11played the clarinet; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren attended the University of
13Illinois and later graduated from Augustana College; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren worked for Ametek in East Moline
15and Rock Island Lumber, where he was involved in the planning
16of over 200 houses in Rock Island County; he later worked as a
17banker for Metro Bank in East Moline, where he retired at the
18position of vice president; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren was a member of First Baptist
20Church in Moline, where he served on several committees; he was

1also a 50-year member of the East Moline Rotary, a 50-year
2Mason, and a member of the Black Hawk Shrine Club; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren played music his whole life,
4starting out with the clarinet, saxophone, and piano; he was an
5accomplished pianist who organized a number of jazz and dance
6bands; he had a one-piece to an 18-piece ensemble and played
7with the Jack Manthy Orchestra; he led the 1976 Bicentennial
8Celebration along with Bob Hope, Barbara McNair, and Bernadette
9Peters; he loved big band music and was a longtime friend of
10Louie Bellson; he also wrote music, all by memory; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren was preceded in death by his
12parents; his wife, Sylvia; his granddaughter, Jenna; and his
13sister, Shirley Lofgren; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Robert Lofgren is survived by his son, Jay (Lisa)
15Lofgren; his daughters, Sheri Helmel and Tracy (Steve) Pettett;
16his grandchildren, Nicholas, Kurtis, Kyle, Holly, Christopher,
17and Brian; and his great-granddaughters, Brielle and Adelina;
18therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
21family and friends, mourn the passing of Robert V. Lofgren; and
22be it further
