SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-664

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that no registration fee for a Gold Star license plate shall be required from a child (in addition to a surviving widow, widower, or parent) of a person who served in the Armed Forces of the United States and lost his or her life while serving on active duty (instead of "while in service while in wartime").

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
5changing Section 3-664 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-664)
7    Sec. 3-664. Gold Star license plates. Upon proper
8application, the Secretary of State shall issue registration
9plates designated as Gold Star license plates to any Illinois
10resident who is the surviving widow, widower, sibling,
11daughter, son, or parent of a person who served in the Armed
12Forces of the United States and lost his or her life while in
13service whether in peacetime or war. The surviving widow or
14widower and each surviving parent, daughter, son, and sibling
15shall be issued one or more sets of registration plates.
16Registration plates issued under this Section shall be for
17first division vehicles and second division vehicles of 8,000
18pounds or less. The Secretary may, in his or her discretion,
19allow the plates to be issued as vanity or personalized plates
20in accordance with Section 3-405.1 of this Code. No
21registration fee shall be required from a surviving widow,
22widower, or parent, or child of a person who served in the
23Armed Forces of the United States and lost his or her life
