SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
735 ILCS 5/13-214.1  from Ch. 110, par. 13-214.1

    Amends the Code of Civil Procedure. Provides that an action may be commenced within 10 years of the last act committed in furtherance of the crime for an action arising out of: theft of property exceeding $100,000 in value; identity theft; aggravated identity theft; financial exploitation of an elderly person or a person with a disability; or other specific offenses in the Criminal Code of 2012. Effective July 1, 2019.

1    AN ACT concerning civil law.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Code of Civil Procedure is amended by
5changing Section 13-214.1 as follows:
 
6    (735 ILCS 5/13-214.1)  (from Ch. 110, par. 13-214.1)
7    Sec. 13-214.1. Action for damages involving criminal acts.
8    (a) Actions for damages for an injury described in Section
913-202 or Section 13-203 arising out of first degree murder or
10the commission of a Class X felony by the person against whom
11the action is brought may be commenced no later than 10 years
12after the person who inflicted such injury has completed his or
13her sentence therefor.
14    (b) For an action for damages arising out of: theft of
15property exceeding $100,000 in value under Section 16-1 of the
16Criminal Code of 2012; identity theft under subsection (a) of
17Section 16-30 of the Criminal Code of 2012; aggravated identity
18theft under subsection (b) of Section 16-30 of the Criminal
19Code of 2012; financial exploitation of an elderly person or a
20person with a disability under Section 17-56 of the Criminal
21Code of 2012; or any offense set forth in Article 16H or
22Section 17-10.6 of the Criminal Code of 2012, the action may be
23commenced within 10 years of the last act committed in
