SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Monte Siegrist of Taylorville, who passed away on November 28, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Monte Siegrist was born in Taylorville to Walter and Pauline (Straughn) Siegrist on May 20, 1933; he graduated from Taylorville High School in 1951; he attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, where he was a member of the Delta Chi fraternity; in 1953, he joined the United States Army and also married Lucy Kuntzman; and

WHEREAS, Monte Siegrist was an entrepreneur and ran a successful business; he was responsible for over half of the housing units built in Taylorville over the past 60 years; he was the founding President of the Springfield Area Homebuilders; and

WHEREAS, Monte Siegrist received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chamber of Commerce for his lifelong dedication to Taylorville; in 2005, he and Lucy donated a statue of President Abraham Lincoln to the City; he was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church; at the age of 80, he returned to college at Lincoln Land; he was a family man, a friend, a lifelong Democrat, a philanthropist, an Eagle Scout, and an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals; and

WHEREAS, Monte Siegrist was preceded in death by his son, John Lyndon; his siblings, Max, Malcolm, and Ellen Siegrist; and his parents; and

WHEREAS, Monte Siegrist is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucy; his children, Mark, Jay, Scott, Kirk, and Julie; his 11 grandchildren; his 13 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Sue Siegrist Wilson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Monte Siegrist and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Monte Siegrist as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
