HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of The Honorable Michael J. Henshaw of Harrisburg, who passed away on March 22, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Michael Henshaw was born in Harrisburg to A.J. and Morean Elms Henshaw on November 21, 1944; he graduated from Carrier Mills High School in 1963 and Southeastern Illinois College in 1965; he earned his Bachelor of Arts from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1967; he earned his Juris Doctorate from the Chicago Kent College of Law in 1971 and was admitted to the Illinois Bar the same year; he married Lavon Tanner on November 25, 1995; and

WHEREAS, Michael Henshaw was elected as Saline County State's Attorney in 1972 and served through 1976; he then went into private practice for two years before becoming the Circuit Court Judge for Saline County in 1978; he served through 1998 and became the Chief Judge of the First Judicial Circuit until his retirement in November of 2006; in 2008, he was again elected Saline County State's Attorney and held that position until his death; and

WHEREAS, Michael Henshaw attended the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg; and

WHEREAS, Michael Henshaw was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Michael Henshaw is survived by his wife, Lavon; his sons, Brad (Verlinda) Henshaw, Jarrod (Sarah) Henshaw, and Todd Stevens (Alexa Merritt); his daughter, Sarah (Walter) Powell; his grandchildren, Whitney Henshaw, Anneliese and Mitchell Henshaw, and Morgan and Alexa Powell; his brother, Harry Henshaw, and children, Rebecca and Aaron; his brother, Brent Henshaw; his nephew, Darrick Sandifer; his beloved friend, Luka Djedovic; and his beloved pet, Gracie; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Michael J. Henshaw, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Michael Henshaw as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
