1 AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2396
2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2396 by replacing
3 everything after the enacting clause with the following:

4     "Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing
5 Section 28-8 as follows:

6     (10 ILCS 5/28-8)  (from Ch. 46, par. 28-8)
7     Sec. 28-8. If a referendum held in accordance with Section
8 28-7 of this Act involved the question of whether a unit of
9 local government shall become a home rule unit or shall cease
10 to be a home rule unit and if that referendum passed, then the
11 clerk of that unit of local government shall, within 45 days
12 after the referendum, file with the Secretary of State a
13 certified statement showing the results of the referendum and
14 the resulting status of the unit of local government as a home
15 rule unit or a non-home rule unit. The Secretary of State shall
16 maintain such certified statements in his office as a public

1 record.

2     The question of whether a unit of local government shall
3 become a home rule unit shall be submitted in substantially the
4 following form:
5     Shall (name of the unit of local government) become a home
6     rule unit?
7     Votes must be recorded as "yes" or "no".

8     The question of whether a unit of local government shall
9 cease to be a home rule unit shall be submitted in
10 substantially the following form:
11     Shall (name of the unit of local government) cease to be a
12     home rule unit?
13     Votes must be recorded as "yes" or "no".
