425 ILCS 60/2  from Ch. 127 1/2, par. 802

    Amends the Smoke Detector Act. Provides that the meaning of "dwelling unit" shall include each living unit in a hotel. Effective January 1, 2012.

1    AN ACT concerning safety.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Smoke Detector Act is amended by changing
5Section 2 as follows:
 
6    (425 ILCS 60/2)  (from Ch. 127 1/2, par. 802)
7    Sec. 2. For the purposes of this Act:
8    "Approved smoke detector" or "detector" means a smoke
9detector of the ionization or photoelectric type, which
10complies with all the requirements of the Rules and regulations
11of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
12    "Dwelling unit" means a room or suite of rooms used for
13human habitation, and includes a single family residence as
14well as each living unit of a multiple family residence, and
15each living unit in a mixed-use building, and each living unit
16in a hotel.
17    "Hotel" means any building or buildings maintained,
18advertised, or held out to the public to be a place where
19lodging is offered for consideration to travelers and guests.
20"Hotel" includes inns, motels, tourist homes or courts, bed and
21breakfast establishments and lodging houses.

1    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January
21, 2012.
