SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-806   from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-806
625 ILCS 5/806.7 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that, commencing with the 2009 registration year, the registration fee paid by any vehicle owner who is a member of the armed forces of the United States on active duty shall be reduced by 50% of the fee otherwise provided in this Code for passenger cars displaying standard multi-year registration plates. Provides that widows, widowers, and parents of a deceased member of the armed forces of the United States, who was killed while on active duty, shall also be entitled to this reduced registration fee for the registration year in which the deceased member of the armed forces of the United States was eligible and for a period of 5 years thereafter. Effective July 1, 2008.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5 Section 3-806 and by adding Section 806.7 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-806)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-806)
7     Sec. 3-806. Registration Fees; Motor Vehicles of the First
8 Division. Every owner of any other motor vehicle of the first
9 division, except as provided in Sections 3-804, 3-805, 3-806.3,
10 3-806.7 and 3-808, and every second division vehicle weighing
11 8,000 pounds or less, shall pay the Secretary of State an
12 annual registration fee at the following rates:

4 3-414.1. Widows, widowers, and parents of a deceased member of
5 the armed forces of the United States, who was killed while on
6 active duty, shall also be entitled to this reduced
7 registration fee for the registration year in which the
8 deceased member of the armed forces of the United States was
9 eligible and for a period of 5 years thereafter.
 
10     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect July 1,
11 2008.
