SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Monte Siegrist of Taylorville, who passed
4away on November 28, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Monte Siegrist was born in Taylorville to Walter
6and Pauline (Straughn) Siegrist on May 20, 1933; he graduated
7from Taylorville High School in 1951; he attended the
8University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, where he was a
9member of the Delta Chi fraternity; in 1953, he joined the
10United States Army and also married Lucy Kuntzman; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Monte Siegrist was an entrepreneur and ran a
12successful business; he was responsible for over half of the
13housing units built in Taylorville over the past 60 years; he
14was the founding President of the Springfield Area
15Homebuilders; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Monte Siegrist received a Lifetime Achievement
17Award from the Chamber of Commerce for his lifelong dedication
18to Taylorville; in 2005, he and Lucy donated a statue of
19President Abraham Lincoln to the City; he was a member of St.
20Mary's Catholic Church; at the age of 80, he returned to
21college at Lincoln Land; he was a family man, a friend, a
22lifelong Democrat, a philanthropist, an Eagle Scout, and an

1avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Monte Siegrist was preceded in death by his son,
3John Lyndon; his siblings, Max, Malcolm, and Ellen Siegrist;
4and his parents; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Monte Siegrist is survived by his wife of 65
6years, Lucy; his children, Mark, Jay, Scott, Kirk, and Julie;
7his 11 grandchildren; his 13 great-grandchildren; and his
8sister, Sue Siegrist Wilson; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Monte Siegrist and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Monte Siegrist as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
