HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Officer Raymond Murrell of the Bloomingdale Police Department, who passed away on January 19, 2017, at the age of 27; and

WHEREAS, Officer Murrell was the first Bloomingdale officer to die in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS, While growing up, Officer Murrell dreamed of becoming a police officer; he graduated from Addison Trail High School and received his law enforcement degree from Westwood College; he graduated from the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy in June of 2016, where he was awarded the George Graves Award for being selected by his fellow officers in the class as the most distinguished recruit; and

WHEREAS, Officer Murrell lived in Addison and had served on the Bloomingdale Police Department since March of 2016; prior to that, he was a corrections officer with the Cook County Sheriff's Department; and

WHEREAS, In his spare time, Officer Murrell enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his niece, Mia; he was devoted to his family, the community, and law enforcement; he was an exemplary public servant, an integral part of the Bloomingdale Police Department, and a hero to many in the Bloomingdale community; he received a Bloomingdale Police Department Commendation for assisting a fellow officer in saving a life; and

WHEREAS, Officer Murrell was the beloved son of Anthony (Lori) Murrell and Mary Aguero; the brother of Antoinette Williams; the loving uncle of Mia Williams; the grandson of Marina Lopez and the late Alma and Walter Murrell; the beloved nephew of many aunts and uncles; and cousin to many; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Officer Raymond Murrell, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Officer Murrell as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
