HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Officer
4Raymond Murrell of the Bloomingdale Police Department, who
5passed away on January 19, 2017, at the age of 27; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Officer Murrell was the first Bloomingdale
7officer to die in the line of duty; and
 
8    WHEREAS, While growing up, Officer Murrell dreamed of
9becoming a police officer; he graduated from Addison Trail High
10School and received his law enforcement degree from Westwood
11College; he graduated from the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy
12in June of 2016, where he was awarded the George Graves Award
13for being selected by his fellow officers in the class as the
14most distinguished recruit; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Officer Murrell lived in Addison and had served on
16the Bloomingdale Police Department since March of 2016; prior
17to that, he was a corrections officer with the Cook County
18Sheriff's Department; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In his spare time, Officer Murrell enjoyed
20spending time with his family, especially his niece, Mia; he
21was devoted to his family, the community, and law enforcement;

1he was an exemplary public servant, an integral part of the
2Bloomingdale Police Department, and a hero to many in the
3Bloomingdale community; he received a Bloomingdale Police
4Department Commendation for assisting a fellow officer in
5saving a life; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Officer Murrell was the beloved son of Anthony
7(Lori) Murrell and Mary Aguero; the brother of Antoinette
8Williams; the loving uncle of Mia Williams; the grandson of
9Marina Lopez and the late Alma and Walter Murrell; the beloved
10nephew of many aunts and uncles; and cousin to many; therefore,
11be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14mourn the passing of Officer Raymond Murrell, and extend our
15sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
16and loved him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Officer Murrell as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
