SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Charles G. Van De Sampel Sr. of Milan, who passed away on November 26, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Charles Van De Sampel Sr. was born in Rock Island to Achiel and Norva Romont Van De Sampel on January 11, 1931; he graduated from Rock Island High School in 1948 and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War; he married Bernice Wojciechowski in Chicago on April 24, 1954; he later married Patricia Smith in Florence, Arizona on January 18, 1991; and

WHEREAS, Charles Van De Sampel Sr. worked at Alcoa for 37 years; he retired as a foreman in 1987; and

WHEREAS, Charles Van De Sampel Sr. was a life member of the Milan American Legion Post 569, where he was a past commander and served as the commander of the Honor Guard for many years; he was a member of the Rock Island Conservation Club, past president of the Milan Indian Summer Festival, past president of the former Belgian American Brotherhood in Rock Island, and former member of the Milan Optimist Club; and

WHEREAS, Charles Van De Sampel Sr. was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Bernice; and his stepsons, Kelly Fleischman, and Jerry Blanford; and

WHEREAS, Charles Van De Sampel Sr. is survived by his wife, Pat; his children, Charles (Jill) Van De Sampel Jr., and Bonnie Marie Kibling; his stepdaughters, Shelly (Bob) Payne, and Jody and Judy Fleischman; five grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and dear friend, Frank Weber; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Charles G. Van De Sampel Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charles Van De Sampel Sr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
