SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charles G. Van De Sampel Sr. of Milan,
4who passed away on November 26, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charles Van De Sampel Sr. was born in Rock Island
6to Achiel and Norva Romont Van De Sampel on January 11, 1931;
7he graduated from Rock Island High School in 1948 and served in
8the United States Air Force during the Korean War; he married
9Bernice Wojciechowski in Chicago on April 24, 1954; he later
10married Patricia Smith in Florence, Arizona on January 18,
111991; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Charles Van De Sampel Sr. worked at Alcoa for 37
13years; he retired as a foreman in 1987; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Charles Van De Sampel Sr. was a life member of the
15Milan American Legion Post 569, where he was a past commander
16and served as the commander of the Honor Guard for many years;
17he was a member of the Rock Island Conservation Club, past
18president of the Milan Indian Summer Festival, past president
19of the former Belgian American Brotherhood in Rock Island, and
20former member of the Milan Optimist Club; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Charles Van De Sampel Sr. was preceded in death by

1his parents; his first wife, Bernice; and his stepsons, Kelly
2Fleischman, and Jerry Blanford; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Charles Van De Sampel Sr. is survived by his wife,
4Pat; his children, Charles (Jill) Van De Sampel Jr., and Bonnie
5Marie Kibling; his stepdaughters, Shelly (Bob) Payne, and Jody
6and Judy Fleischman; five grandchildren; eight
7step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and dear
8friend, Frank Weber; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Charles G. Van De Sampel Sr., and extend our sincere
12condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
13him; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Charles Van De Sampel Sr. as an
16expression of our deepest sympathy.
