SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph Angel Ramirez Sr. of Silvis, who passed away on June 13, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Ramirez Sr. was born in East Moline to Felix and Cresencta Ramirez on January 2, 1920; he served in the United States Army during World War II and married Ophelia Lopez in Rock Island on December 31, 1955; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Ramirez Sr. worked as a machine operator at International Harvester in East Moline for 34 years; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Ramirez Sr. was a member of VFW Post 8890; he played semi pro baseball for the Quad Cities Rebels and was marble champion for the State of Illinois; he loved to play the guitar and sing with his best friend and brother, Louie; he also loved the outdoors and gardening; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Ramirez Sr. was preceded in death by his wife, Ophelia; his parents; his sons, Richard and Tom; and 15 siblings; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Ramirez Sr. is survived by his daughters, Josie Johnson, Sally Koehn, Rosann (Randy) Elsbury, and JoAnn (Barney) Heist; his sons, George Ramirez, Ray (Pancho) Rivas, and Joseph Ramirez Jr.; 16 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Julia Zapata and Carmen McClean; and his brother, Felix Ramirez; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joseph Angel Ramirez Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joseph Ramirez Sr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
