HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Loretta H. Griffin, who passed away on December 1, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Loretta Griffin was born in Evergreen, Alabama on November 27, 1937 to John Holmes and Eloise Drakeford; she married Tom R. Griffin on December 6, 1958; and

WHEREAS, Loretta Griffin accepted Christ at the age of 12 and was baptized at the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Evergreen, Alabama; after relocating to Chicago in 1957, she united with the Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, where she was involved in Sunday school, the B.T.U., the Gospel Choir, and mission work; she was appointed Chairperson of the Deaconess Missionary, where she served for 15 years; and

WHEREAS, Loretta Griffin and her husband relocated to Gautier, Mississippi, where in 1995 they joined the Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church; she served at Greater Antioch Church from September of 1995 until recently; she served on the following Ministries: Mass-Choir, Sunday School, youth teacher, Laymen, and Deaconess Ministry; and

WHEREAS, Loretta Griffin was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lina McGee; her brother, Ralph Mallory; and her grandson, Aaron Meadows; and

WHEREAS, Loretta Griffin is survived by her husband of 57 years, Tom R. Griffin; her 2 sons, Gregory (Bonita) Griffin and Frederick (Gina) Griffin; her step-daughter, Yvonne (Willie) Cockrell; her goddaughter, Dorothy "Coope"; her grandchildren, Fatima (Michael) Griffin, Frederick Griffin, Jr., Rebecca Cockrell, and Kerwin Cockrell; her 4 great-grandchildren, Ayana Meadows, Randall Brocks, Jr., Kerwin Cockrell, Jr., and Sarai Griffin; her sister, Evelyn Holmes; her brother-in-law, James Griffin; her sister-in-law, Lucille Sanders; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Loretta H. Griffin, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Loretta Griffin as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
