HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Loretta
4H. Griffin, who passed away on December 1, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Loretta Griffin was born in Evergreen, Alabama on
6November 27, 1937 to John Holmes and Eloise Drakeford; she
7married Tom R. Griffin on December 6, 1958; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Loretta Griffin accepted Christ at the age of 12
9and was baptized at the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church
10in Evergreen, Alabama; after relocating to Chicago in 1957, she
11united with the Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, where
12she was involved in Sunday school, the B.T.U., the Gospel
13Choir, and mission work; she was appointed Chairperson of the
14Deaconess Missionary, where she served for 15 years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Loretta Griffin and her husband relocated to
16Gautier, Mississippi, where in 1995 they joined the Greater
17Antioch Missionary Baptist Church; she served at Greater
18Antioch Church from September of 1995 until recently; she
19served on the following Ministries: Mass-Choir, Sunday School,
20youth teacher, Laymen, and Deaconess Ministry; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Loretta Griffin was preceded in death by her

1parents; her sister, Lina McGee; her brother, Ralph Mallory;
2and her grandson, Aaron Meadows; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Loretta Griffin is survived by her husband of 57
4years, Tom R. Griffin; her 2 sons, Gregory (Bonita) Griffin and
5Frederick (Gina) Griffin; her step-daughter, Yvonne (Willie)
6Cockrell; her goddaughter, Dorothy "Coope"; her grandchildren,
7Fatima (Michael) Griffin, Frederick Griffin, Jr., Rebecca
8Cockrell, and Kerwin Cockrell; her 4 great-grandchildren,
9Ayana Meadows, Randall Brocks, Jr., Kerwin Cockrell, Jr., and
10Sarai Griffin; her sister, Evelyn Holmes; her brother-in-law,
11James Griffin; her sister-in-law, Lucille Sanders; and a host
12of nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15mourn the passing of Loretta H. Griffin, and extend our sincere
16condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
17her; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Loretta Griffin as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
