SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. John M. "Jack" Abell of Aurora, who passed away on October 27, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Dr. John Abell was born on September 29, 1921, in Aurora to Mary Ann and William Abell and lived in Aurora all of his life; he graduated from Marmion Military Academy, Benedictine University, and the University of Illinois Medical School; he married Patricia Brennan; and

WHEREAS, Dr. John Abell was a member of the Lay Association of Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, Holy Angels Church, Serra Club of Aurora, and the Kane County Medical Society; he was an honorary staff member of Provena Mercy Medical Center and Rush-Copley Medical Center; he interned at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego, California and was in the Navy Reserve until 1982; he joined Dreyer Medical Clinic in 1950 and retired in 1986; and

WHEREAS, Dr. John Abell was preceded in death by his grandson, Kevin Bryant; his parents, Mary Ann and William Abell; his sisters, May Dickes and Patricia Abell; and his brother, William Abell; and

WHEREAS, Dr. John Abell is survived by his wife, Patricia (Brennan) Abell; his children, Michael (Janice) Abell, Martha (Richard) Rode, Theresa (John) Bryan, and Timothy Abell; and his grandchildren, Timothy and Michaela Rode, Cameron Abell, Jeffrey and Nathan Abell, and Patrick, Michael, David, and Mary Kate Bryant; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dr. John Abell, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. John Abell as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
