SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Barbara Ann Weitekamp of The Villages, Florida, who passed away on July 17, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Weitekamp was born in Decatur to Roy and Marguerite Limes on April 26, 1932; she married Howard Weitekamp on September 30, 1950; she moved to The Villages in Florida in 2009; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Weitekamp owned and operated three women's boutiques; she was well known for her musical fashion shows at Springfield College, The Heart Association, and The Cancer Society; she later became the director of the Illinois Federation of Right to Life and served on George W. Bush's Advisory Team; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Weitekamp was committed to her faith and known for finding kind words to say to all; she enjoyed reading, history, puzzles, and politics; she liked playing Mahjong and Kings in the Corner with her neighbors; she loved traveling on cruises, especially with her family; she gave generously to those who were in need and was a charitable donor to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, Covenant House, Wounded Warriors, and Disabled Veterans of America; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Weitekamp was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Howard; her son, William; her daughter, Karen; her brother, Leroy; her sister, Phyllis (Gilleland); and her grandson, Isaac; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Weitekamp is survived by Richard (Lisa), Judith (Ira), Brenda (Alan), Susan, Margaret, and Dennis (Charlene); her grandchildren, Jennifer, Catherine, Greg, Amanda, Rachel, Colin, Glenda, Frank, Emily, Michael, Zeke, and Holly; and her great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Barbara Ann Weitekamp and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Barbara Weitekamp as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
