SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ethel Gay Viau, who passed away on September 18, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Viau was born on November 19, 1937 in Escanaba, Michigan; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Viau earned her Bachelor of Science from Northern Michigan University in 1978; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Ethel Viau lived in Alexandria, Louisiana and began working as an art educator and a rape crisis center coordinator; in 1985, she moved to Waukegan and began working as a social worker for Catholic Charities and the Department of Children and Family Services; throughout her career, she made it her goal to provide children with the best living situation possible through her work and volunteer efforts; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Viau enjoyed music and learned to play piano at a very young age; she also enjoyed fishing, camping, and walking nature trails; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Viau was preceded in death by her parents, Steven Grenfell and Ila Ehrenberg (Grenfell); her brother, Harry Schmidt; and her grandchild, Karl Norberg, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Ethel Viau is survived by her children, Deborah (David) Dayton, Steven (Vicki) Viau, Nancy (Karl) Norberg, Donald (Jean) Viau, and Robert (Catherine) Viau; her 10 grandchildren; her 8 great-grandchildren, and her precious cat, Milo; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Ethel Gay Viau; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ethel Viau as an expression of our sympathy.
