SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Carl G. Wellman of Harvard, who passed away on August 25, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Carl Wellman was born September 13, 1925 in West Point, Iowa to Henry and Bertha (nee Wiggenjost) Wellman; he served in the United States Army during World War II in the Philippines; he married Winnifred Walsh on October 25, 1952 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada; and

WHEREAS, Carl Wellman farmed in his early years in Iowa and Canada and for many years he worked as an electrician for Illinois Bell in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Carl Wellman was a member of the Woodstock Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Harvard Grange, and the Antique Outboard Motor Club; he had a large collection of antique outboard motors and was also well known for his hat collection; he enjoyed attending thresheree events such as the Rock River Thresheree in Edgerton, Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Carl Wellman was preceded in death by his sisters, Marian Woolford, Lucille Schumaker, Irene Wellman, and Clara Wellman; and

WHEREAS, Carl Wellman is survived by his wife, Winnifred "Winnie" Wellman; daughter, Lynn (Tim) O'Brien; grandchildren, Megan, Colleen, and Kevin O'Brien; brother, James (Mary) Wellman; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Carl G. Wellman, and extend our sincere condolences to his friends, family, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Carl Wellman as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
