SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gus T. Arvanitis of Des Plaines, who passed away on September 11, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Gus Arvanitis was born to Theodosios K. and Petroula Arvanitis in Nestani, Greece on May 23, 1937; he emigrated from Greece to the United States in 1954, and he was always grateful for all the opportunities his new homeland offered; and

WHEREAS, Gus Arvanitis was a self-taught chef, leading the kitchens of family restaurants for over 40 years; his greatest joy came from cooking for his family and teaching his grandchildren the secret to his Pappou's beef, special chili, Thanksgiving stuffing, and incredible breakfast spreads; and

WHEREAS, Gus Arvanitis was constantly pursuing knowledge, whether it was American history or Paul Bocuse cookbooks; he had a passion for cars, photography, woodworking, and furniture making; he built furniture for his home and served as his own contractor for most of his home projects; he took pride in the landscaping and gardening of his yard, even winning an award from the City of Des Plaines for his landscaping design; and

WHEREAS, Gus Arvanitis was the husband of Vasiliki "Kiki" (Demos) for 60 years; the father of Petroula (Zachary) Bazianos, Dena (Steve) Pavlopoulos, Ted (Michelle) Arvanitis, and Trifona "Aki" (Tina) Arvanitis; the grandfather of Sofia, Ariana, Costa, Gus, Ava, Charlie, Dean, Lucas, George, and Ellie; the brother of the late Peter (the late Panagoula) Arvanitis, the late Dena (the late Andreas) Spyropoulos, Mary (Andy) Gallanis, and Fotoula (the late Nick) Argyros; the uncle to several nieces and nephews; and the friend to many; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gus T. Arvanitis and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gus Arvanitis as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
