SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Gus T. Arvanitis of Des Plaines, who
4passed away on September 11, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gus Arvanitis was born to Theodosios K. and
6Petroula Arvanitis in Nestani, Greece on May 23, 1937; he
7emigrated from Greece to the United States in 1954, and he was
8always grateful for all the opportunities his new homeland
9offered; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gus Arvanitis was a self-taught chef, leading the
11kitchens of family restaurants for over 40 years; his greatest
12joy came from cooking for his family and teaching his
13grandchildren the secret to his Pappou's beef, special chili,
14Thanksgiving stuffing, and incredible breakfast spreads; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Gus Arvanitis was constantly pursuing knowledge,
16whether it was American history or Paul Bocuse cookbooks; he
17had a passion for cars, photography, woodworking, and
18furniture making; he built furniture for his home and served
19as his own contractor for most of his home projects; he took
20pride in the landscaping and gardening of his yard, even
21winning an award from the City of Des Plaines for his
22landscaping design; and

1    WHEREAS, Gus Arvanitis was the husband of Vasiliki "Kiki"
2(Demos) for 60 years; the father of Petroula (Zachary)
3Bazianos, Dena (Steve) Pavlopoulos, Ted (Michelle) Arvanitis,
4and Trifona "Aki" (Tina) Arvanitis; the grandfather of Sofia,
5Ariana, Costa, Gus, Ava, Charlie, Dean, Lucas, George, and
6Ellie; the brother of the late Peter (the late Panagoula)
7Arvanitis, the late Dena (the late Andreas) Spyropoulos, Mary
8(Andy) Gallanis, and Fotoula (the late Nick) Argyros; the
9uncle to several nieces and nephews; and the friend to many;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Gus T. Arvanitis and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Gus Arvanitis as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
