SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Leroy E. Fritz of Godfrey, who passed away on April 18, 2012; and

WHEREAS, He was born in Belleville, on November 14, 1923, the son of the late Albert and Anna (Feder) Fritz; he married Carol Stillwell Teichmann on August 5, 1995; and

WHEREAS, He served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the 745 Tank Battalion, in the 1st Infantry Division; he fought at the Battle of the Bulge; he also served at the Remagen Bridgehead, earned 3 campaign stars, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart; and

WHEREAS, He received his college and graduate degrees from Western Kentucky University, George Peabody College, and Southern Illinois University; he was employed as a teacher and administrator for the Alton Community Unit School District for 32 years, retiring in 1981; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ, where he sang in the choir; he played the violin in the Alton Civic Orchestra and was on the boards of the Alton Symphony and the Alton Youth Symphony; he was also a member of the Alton School Board and was a piano technician and tuner for many years; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Leroy Fritz is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughter and her spouse, Ruth and Chad Fisher; his sons and their spouses, William and Mari Fritz, Robert and Doreen Fritz, and John and Tacie Fritz; his stepsons and their spouses, Scott and Sandy Teichmann and Keith and Rita Teichmann; his 11 grandchildren; his 4 step-grandchildren; his 8 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Lloyd Fritz; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Leroy Fritz; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Leroy Fritz as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
