SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Kenneth C. Edelen of Alton, who passed away on November 15, 2011; and

WHEREAS, He was born on June 1, 1928, in Alton, son of James L. and Anna (Golden) Edelen; he married the former Margaret "Jeanette" Johnson on September 11, 1953, in Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, He worked at Granite City Steel for 37 years, retiring in 1993; he served in the United States military for 7 years, 3 years in the Army and 4 years in the Navy during the Korean Conflict; he was a member of the Alton Eagles FOE 254 and Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville; and

WHEREAS, He loved gardening, reading, going for long walks, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, cooking, being of help to anyone in need and most of all, spending time with his kids and grandkids; thanks to the constant help he gave to his daughters, he became an accomplished plumber, electrician, carpenter, painter, and most importantly, father and grandfather; he enjoyed taking day trips to St. Luke's with his wife and visiting the shops and restaurants in Chesterfield, Missouri; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Richard, Raymond, and Harold Edelen; and his sister, Vivian Hewlett; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth Edelen is survived by his wife, Margaret; his daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Charles Parker, Sheila Beasley, Jane and Mike Bracht and Sarah and Mark Lewis; his grandchildren, Casey Andrew Parker, Sarah Margaret Parker, Abigail Elizabeth Parker, Samuel Charles Parker, Emily Jane Beasley-Furrow, Charles Christopher Beasley, Michael Jon Bracht, Lucy Jane Bracht, James Kenneth Bracht, Andrew Louis Bracht, Madeline Rose Lewis, Martha Jeanette Lewis, Peter Joseph Lewis, and John Francis Lewis; and his 4 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Kenneth Edelen; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Kenneth Edelen as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
