SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Kenneth C. Edelen of Alton, who passed
4away on November 15, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born on June 1, 1928, in Alton, son of
6James L. and Anna (Golden) Edelen; he married the former
7Margaret "Jeanette" Johnson on September 11, 1953, in
8Mississippi; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He worked at Granite City Steel for 37 years,
10retiring in 1993; he served in the United States military for 7
11years, 3 years in the Army and 4 years in the Navy during the
12Korean Conflict; he was a member of the Alton Eagles FOE 254
13and Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville; and
 
14    WHEREAS, He loved gardening, reading, going for long walks,
15working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, cooking, being of help to
16anyone in need and most of all, spending time with his kids and
17grandkids; thanks to the constant help he gave to his
18daughters, he became an accomplished plumber, electrician,
19carpenter, painter, and most importantly, father and
20grandfather; he enjoyed taking day trips to St. Luke's with his
21wife and visiting the shops and restaurants in Chesterfield,
22Missouri; and

1    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his
2brothers, Richard, Raymond, and Harold Edelen; and his sister,
3Vivian Hewlett; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Kenneth Edelen is survived by his wife, Margaret;
5his daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Charles Parker, Sheila
6Beasley, Jane and Mike Bracht and Sarah and Mark Lewis; his
7grandchildren, Casey Andrew Parker, Sarah Margaret Parker,
8Abigail Elizabeth Parker, Samuel Charles Parker, Emily Jane
9Beasley-Furrow, Charles Christopher Beasley, Michael Jon
10Bracht, Lucy Jane Bracht, James Kenneth Bracht, Andrew Louis
11Bracht, Madeline Rose Lewis, Martha Jeanette Lewis, Peter
12Joseph Lewis, and John Francis Lewis; and his 4
13great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
16his family and friends, the passing of Kenneth Edelen; and be
17it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Kenneth Edelen as a symbol of our
20sincere sympathy.
