HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Katie Singletary, who passed away on April 22, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Katie Singletary was born on April 17, 1929, in Roundpond, Arkansas; her parents were Earnest and Louise Burton; she married Harrison Singletary in 1952; and

WHEREAS, Katie Singletary attended Woodbine School in Shelby, Mississippi where she played her favorite sport, baseball, where she was known as the "home run queen"; and

WHEREAS, While living in Mississippi, Katie Singletary attended Hopewell Church; after relocating to Chicago, she joined the Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church; she also enjoyed attending the Greater Rock Church and the Hope Community Church; and

WHEREAS, Katie Singletary enjoyed bowling with her Saturday Night Good Times Bowling League team, "The Peaceful Ones"; and

WHEREAS, She loved poetry and was a long time member of the Beautifying Club; she loved studying and hearing the word of God; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Robert, Tommy, Earnest, Jr., and Rosetta; and

WHEREAS, Katie Singletary is survived by her sons, James (Faye), Earnest (Karen), and Otto (Camille); her grandchildren, Latonia Brown (Denoris), Anthony, Denise Foster, DeVontae Blanks, James Jr., Candace, Christopher, and Savannah; her 10 great-grandchildren; her siblings, James Wright (Elizabeth), Mary Carr (James), and Martha Smiley (Eddie); her uncle, AC Childress (Tammy); her many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; her spiritual mother, Ms. Bessie McCloud; and the extended family that she cared for after her retirement, Robin, Nina, Sullivan, Bailey, Emily, Jack, Isabella, and Cecilia; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Katie Singletary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Katie Singletary as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
