HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Katie
4Singletary, who passed away on April 22, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Katie Singletary was born on April 17, 1929, in
6Roundpond, Arkansas; her parents were Earnest and Louise
7Burton; she married Harrison Singletary in 1952; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Katie Singletary attended Woodbine School in
9Shelby, Mississippi where she played her favorite sport,
10baseball, where she was known as the "home run queen"; and
 
11    WHEREAS, While living in Mississippi, Katie Singletary
12attended Hopewell Church; after relocating to Chicago, she
13joined the Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church; she also
14enjoyed attending the Greater Rock Church and the Hope
15Community Church; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Katie Singletary enjoyed bowling with her
17Saturday Night Good Times Bowling League team, "The Peaceful
18Ones"; and
 
19    WHEREAS, She loved poetry and was a long time member of the
20Beautifying Club; she loved studying and hearing the word of

1God; and
 
2    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; and her
3siblings, Robert, Tommy, Earnest, Jr., and Rosetta; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Katie Singletary is survived by her sons, James
5(Faye), Earnest (Karen), and Otto (Camille); her
6grandchildren, Latonia Brown (Denoris), Anthony, Denise
7Foster, DeVontae Blanks, James Jr., Candace, Christopher, and
8Savannah; her 10 great-grandchildren; her siblings, James
9Wright (Elizabeth), Mary Carr (James), and Martha Smiley
10(Eddie); her uncle, AC Childress (Tammy); her many loving
11nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; her spiritual mother,
12Ms. Bessie McCloud; and the extended family that she cared for
13after her retirement, Robin, Nina, Sullivan, Bailey, Emily,
14Jack, Isabella, and Cecilia; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of
18Katie Singletary; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Katie Singletary as a symbol of our
21sincere sympathy.
