HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Herman "Chip" Johnson, II, who passed away on July 19, 2011; and

WHEREAS, He was born on October 21, 1967; he received Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at St. John AME Church; he was an active member of the Praise Choir and the Sanctuary Choir; after moving to North Carolina he became a member of St. Matthew AME Church in Raleigh; and

WHEREAS, He completed his education in Oak Park; he played violin since the third grade and played with the orchestra and Chamber String Ensemble in high school, traveling to Austria, France, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland with both groups; he was a Beau in Mu Mu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity's Beautillion III '85; he also participated as an escort in the John C. Vaughn Cotillion; and

WHEREAS, He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois at Chicago; after graduation he became a candidate for officer training in the United States Navy; he was commissioned as an Ensign in September of 1998; and

WHEREAS, After serving in the Navy he moved to Arizona and received his Paralegal Assistant certification; he was employed with the Maricopa County District Attorney's Office; he later moved to Lansing, Michigan and attended school; he eventually moved to North Carolina and worked as a District Supervisor for a security firm; and

WHEREAS, Herman "Chip" Johnson, II is survived by his parents, Herman and Elaine; his brothers, Joseph and Ivan; his sisters, Pamela (Moses) Watson, Tessa, and Verna; his nephews, Chad and Jacob; his niece, Gabriana; and a host of family and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Herman "Chip" Johnson, II; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Herman "Chip" Johnson, II as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
