SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Tyrone Kenner, who passed away on April 27, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Tyrone Kenner was born on July 8, 1932; his parents were General Thomas Jefferson Kenner and Thelma McLemore; he was baptized at Great Hope MBC in Robbins and grew to know Christ at an early age; and

WHEREAS, Tyrone Kenner received his education from Dwight D. Eisenhower High School in Robbins; he then entered into the United States Air Force; after his honorable discharge, he went on to become a boxing promoter and a Chicago Police Officer; and

WHEREAS, Tyrone Kenner served as the Director of the Urban Progress Center in Chicago and Director of the Chicago Committee on Urban Opportunity; he was elected to serve as Third Ward Alderman in 1971 and served in that capacity for 13 years; as Alderman, he championed efforts to rebuild his ward, reduce the high crime rate, and put many people to work; in recent years, he was an assistant engineer for Cook County; and

WHEREAS, Tyrone Kenner was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Payne; his parents; and his brother, William Kenner; and

WHEREAS, Tyrone Kenner is survived by his children, Howard Kenner, Reverend Brian H. Kenner (Audrey), Renee Kenner-Clay (Gregory), Kimberly Kenner-Wash (Tony), Sonja Kenner, and Tonja Simmons (Emil); his special friend and companion, Denise Murray, and her three children, Edward Murray (Lashawn), Elaine Murray, and Erin Murray (Fancee); his 26 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Thomas Kenner; his step-mother, Mary Louise Mingee; his niece, Peggy Kenner; his nephew, Dwight Kenner; his godson, Ronnie Yoakley; his favorite cousins, Gwendolyn Kenner Johnson, Sheila McLemore Saville, and Wyatt Kenner; and his many other family members and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Tyrone Kenner; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Tyrone Kenner as an expression of our sympathy.
