SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Tyrone Kenner, who passed away on April
4 27, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Tyrone Kenner was born on July 8, 1932; his
6 parents were General Thomas Jefferson Kenner and Thelma
7 McLemore; he was baptized at Great Hope MBC in Robbins and grew
8 to know Christ at an early age; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Tyrone Kenner received his education from Dwight
10 D. Eisenhower High School in Robbins; he then entered into the
11 United States Air Force; after his honorable discharge, he went
12 on to become a boxing promoter and a Chicago Police Officer;
13 and
 
14     WHEREAS, Tyrone Kenner served as the Director of the Urban
15 Progress Center in Chicago and Director of the Chicago
16 Committee on Urban Opportunity; he was elected to serve as
17 Third Ward Alderman in 1971 and served in that capacity for 13
18 years; as Alderman, he championed efforts to rebuild his ward,
19 reduce the high crime rate, and put many people to work; in
20 recent years, he was an assistant engineer for Cook County; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Tyrone Kenner was preceded in death by his wife,

1 Emma Payne; his parents; and his brother, William Kenner; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Tyrone Kenner is survived by his children, Howard
3 Kenner, Reverend Brian H. Kenner (Audrey), Renee Kenner-Clay
4 (Gregory), Kimberly Kenner-Wash (Tony), Sonja Kenner, and
5 Tonja Simmons (Emil); his special friend and companion, Denise
6 Murray, and her three children, Edward Murray (Lashawn), Elaine
7 Murray, and Erin Murray (Fancee); his 26 grandchildren and
8 seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Thomas Kenner; his
9 step-mother, Mary Louise Mingee; his niece, Peggy Kenner; his
10 nephew, Dwight Kenner; his godson, Ronnie Yoakley; his favorite
11 cousins, Gwendolyn Kenner Johnson, Sheila McLemore Saville,
12 and Wyatt Kenner; and his many other family members and
13 friends; therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
16 his family and friends, the passing of Tyrone Kenner; and be it
17 further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the family of Tyrone Kenner as an expression of
20 our sympathy.
