HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mother Luida M. Jones (Nana) of Harvey, who passed away on October 22, 2010; and

WHEREAS, She was born on February 14, 1917, in Parkin, Arkansas, to the union of the late Alberta and Elder James H. Bell; she accepted Christ at an early age and lived a saved and sanctified life throughout her entire life; she became a lifetime member of the Church of God in Christ in Memphis, Tennessee, under the leadership of the late Bishop C.H. Mason; and

WHEREAS, After high school, Mother Jones attended Saints Industrial School in Lexington, Mississippi; she was later called upon to teach at an elementary school in her hometown; Mother Jones retired from Oak Forest Hospital of Cook County in Oak Forest; she moved to Harvey with her parents in 1940 and joined the late Elder Bennie E. Goodwin at Portland Street Church of God in Christ in Chicago Heights, where she served faithfully as a church mother, Sunday school teacher, and an evangelist; after many years of faithful service, she was united with the late Bishop H.W. Goldsberry at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Chicago, where she continued to serve on the Mother's Board under the leadership of Elder William H. Allen; and

WHEREAS, Mother Jones was united in marriage to her late husband Reverend Walter W. Jones, Sr. on October 16, 1942; she enjoyed attending school functions, P.T.A, reading, crocheting, baking, and spending time with her grandchildren; she was kind to everyone and loved all children; she beamed with love and became a guiding light to all; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband; and her children, Rose and Edward; and

WHEREAS, Mother Luida M. Jones (Nana) leaves to cherish her loving memories, her children, Walter W. Jones, Jr. (Denitra), LaVerne Turnbo-Bell, and Audrey Holmes-McClellon; her sister, Clarissia Bell-Knox; her grandchildren, Shavelle Danae Bell, Brandon Jones, Tyrone Steele, Cameron Erica Holmes, Kenneth Holmes, Kristin Holmes, Ellis McClellon, and Monte McClellon; along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Mother Luida Jones; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mother Luida Jones as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
