HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mother
4Luida M. Jones (Nana) of Harvey, who passed away on October 22,
52010; and
 
6    WHEREAS, She was born on February 14, 1917, in Parkin,
7Arkansas, to the union of the late Alberta and Elder James H.
8Bell; she accepted Christ at an early age and lived a saved and
9sanctified life throughout her entire life; she became a
10lifetime member of the Church of God in Christ in Memphis,
11Tennessee, under the leadership of the late Bishop C.H. Mason;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, After high school, Mother Jones attended Saints
14Industrial School in Lexington, Mississippi; she was later
15called upon to teach at an elementary school in her hometown;
16Mother Jones retired from Oak Forest Hospital of Cook County in
17Oak Forest; she moved to Harvey with her parents in 1940 and
18joined the late Elder Bennie E. Goodwin at Portland Street
19Church of God in Christ in Chicago Heights, where she served
20faithfully as a church mother, Sunday school teacher, and an
21evangelist; after many years of faithful service, she was
22united with the late Bishop H.W. Goldsberry at Faith Temple
23Church of God in Christ in Chicago, where she continued to

1serve on the Mother's Board under the leadership of Elder
2William H. Allen; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mother Jones was united in marriage to her late
4husband Reverend Walter W. Jones, Sr. on October 16, 1942; she
5enjoyed attending school functions, P.T.A, reading,
6crocheting, baking, and spending time with her grandchildren;
7she was kind to everyone and loved all children; she beamed
8with love and became a guiding light to all; and
 
9    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband; and her
10children, Rose and Edward; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Mother Luida M. Jones (Nana) leaves to cherish her
12loving memories, her children, Walter W. Jones, Jr. (Denitra),
13LaVerne Turnbo-Bell, and Audrey Holmes-McClellon; her sister,
14Clarissia Bell-Knox; her grandchildren, Shavelle Danae Bell,
15Brandon Jones, Tyrone Steele, Cameron Erica Holmes, Kenneth
16Holmes, Kristin Holmes, Ellis McClellon, and Monte McClellon;
17along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives,
18and friends; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Mother
22Luida Jones; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Mother Luida Jones as a symbol of
3our sincere sympathy.
