SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Leon J. Corkery of Moline, who passed away on August 2, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Leon Corkery was born to Charles (J.C.) and Margaret (Staebell) Corkery in Fairbank, Iowa on August 5, 1923; he served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 with the 1636th Engineering Construction Battalion in France, Germany, the Philippines, and Japan; he married Ruth Dingman in Fort Madison, Iowa on September 25, 1949; he attended Iowa State University on the G.I. Bill and graduated as an agricultural engineer in 1950; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Leon Corkery joined John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline where he was employed as an engineer until his retirement in 1984; and

WHEREAS, Leon Corkery was preceded in death by wife; his son, David Corkery; and his nine brothers; and

WHEREAS, Leon Corkery is survived by his four sons; Patrick (Margaret) Corkery, John (Dara) Corkery, Joseph (Margaret Lukens) Corkery, and Daniel (Victoria "Tori") Corkery; his daughter-in-law, Cynthia Corkery; his six grandchildren; his three step-grandchildren; his two great-granddaughters; and his three sisters; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Leon J. Corkery and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Leon Corkery as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
