HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Brian Elliott Sleet of Chicago, who passed away on December 26, 2018 at the age of 41; and

WHEREAS, Brian Sleet was born to Marion and Camille Sleet on December 22, 1977; as a child, he showed promise in several areas; he played the piano for his kindergarten graduation, won a writing contest in grammar school, played basketball and baseball, and was selected for the magnet school, McDade, and the academic center at Whitney Young High School; he was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church; in 2000, he earned a degree in Sociology from Dartmouth College, where he was known as the "Mayor of Dartmouth" because of his habit of meeting, greeting, and holding discussions on the Dartmouth Green; he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Brian Sleet believed that politics was a way to influence public policy, and he was determined to make his contribution in that field; he recently started his own consulting agency and worked to help connect corporate clients with grass-roots leaders; and

WHEREAS, Brian Sleet attended St. James Community Church; he was loyal, purposeful, committed, and faithful; and

WHEREAS, Brian Sleet is survived by his parents; his brother Michael (Debbie) Sleet; his niece, Morgan; his fiance, Nathalie Essex; his uncle, Craig (Camille) Wheeler; his aunts, Carla Wheeler, Angela Wheeler, and Stephanie Lee; his great-aunts, Julia Johnson, Ethel Sleet, and Naomi Henry; and his many cousins and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Brian Sleet and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Brian Sleet as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
