HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Brian
4Elliott Sleet of Chicago, who passed away on December 26, 2018
5at the age of 41; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Brian Sleet was born to Marion and Camille Sleet
7on December 22, 1977; as a child, he showed promise in several
8areas; he played the piano for his kindergarten graduation, won
9a writing contest in grammar school, played basketball and
10baseball, and was selected for the magnet school, McDade, and
11the academic center at Whitney Young High School; he was
12baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church; in 2000, he earned a degree
13in Sociology from Dartmouth College, where he was known as the
14"Mayor of Dartmouth" because of his habit of meeting, greeting,
15and holding discussions on the Dartmouth Green; he earned his
16Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois in 2005; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Brian Sleet believed that politics was a way to
18influence public policy, and he was determined to make his
19contribution in that field; he recently started his own
20consulting agency and worked to help connect corporate clients
21with grass-roots leaders; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Brian Sleet attended St. James Community Church;

1he was loyal, purposeful, committed, and faithful; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Brian Sleet is survived by his parents; his
3brother Michael (Debbie) Sleet; his niece, Morgan; his fiance,
4Nathalie Essex; his uncle, Craig (Camille) Wheeler; his aunts,
5Carla Wheeler, Angela Wheeler, and Stephanie Lee; his
6great-aunts, Julia Johnson, Ethel Sleet, and Naomi Henry; and
7his many cousins and friends; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we mourn the passing of Brian Sleet and extend our sincere
11condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
12him; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Brian Sleet as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
