HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that four schools in Central Illinois have earned Illinois Honor Roll awards given by the Illinois State Board of Education and Northern Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, Webber High School in Bluford received an Academic Improvement award for showing significant gains in academic performance for three consecutive years; schools earning this award made adequate yearly progress, showed an upward trend in test results, made significant academic improvement by showing at least 7.5 point increase in State test scores over last year or 15 points over three years, or earned removal from the Academic Warning List or school improvement status; and

WHEREAS, Jordan Elementary and Schiller Elementary Schools in Centralia and J.L. Buford Intermediate School in Mount Vernon received Spotlight School awards; Spotlight Schools are high-poverty, high-performing schools that are beating the "achievement gap"; schools earning this award made adequate yearly progress, were at least 50% low income in the current and previous two years, at least 60% of students met or exceeded State standards in the current years, and at least 50% of students met or exceeded State standards in the previous two years; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Honor Roll acknowledges schools that make outstanding academic accomplishments; a partnership of the Illinois State Board of Education and Northern Illinois University, the 2004 Honor Roll is presenting 288 awards to urban, suburban, and rural schools in every part of the State; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Webber High School, Jordan Elementary School, Schiller Elementary School, and J.L. Buford Intermediate School on earning Illinois Honor Roll awards from the Illinois State Board of Education and Northern Illinois University; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to each school as an expression of our respect and esteem and our pride in each school's accomplishments.
