SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Daniel "Dan" Leroy Battles of St. Simons Island, Georgia, who passed away on August 21, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Battles was born in Popular Bluff, Missouri on January 8, 1950; he graduated from Cahokia High School and studied at Southwest Missouri State College; he joined the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam as an air traffic controller for almost three years and also trained scuba instructors in Corpus Christi, Texas; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Battles served as Commander of the American Legion Post 166 on St. Simons Island; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Battles was a lighting and sound technician at Wesley UMC Church and for weddings; he loved his church family, and as a labor of love, he worked part time for Seafarers; he truly enjoyed his many friends; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Battles was preceded in death by his stepson, Scott Reynolds; his father, Connie Battles; his stepfather, Guy Julian; and his grandson, Gray Battles; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Battles is survived by his wife, Brenda Reynolds Battles; his mother, Clara Julian; his sister, Jeannie (Wayne) Evans; his daughter, Annie Bundy; his sons, Keith (Amy) Battles, Scott (Shira) Battles, and Matthew Battles; his stepdaughter, Valerie (Shawn) Sandow; his stepdaughter-in-law, Angie Reynolds; his 12 grandchildren; and his two great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Daniel "Dan" Leroy Battles and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Daniel Battles as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
