SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Marilyn J. Smith, who passed away on October 29, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn Smith was born in Alton to Burns H. and M. Velva (Payne) Gross on May 10, 1947; she married Glen Smith in East Alton on September 2, 1966; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn Smith worked as a respiratory therapist for St. Anthony's Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn Smith was a member of Cornerstone Church, where she was in charge of Operation Christmas Child; she was active with the Leisure World Ladies group and enjoyed playing pinochle; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Glen, and her parents; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn Smith is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Todd Ballard; her son, David B. Smith; her granddaughters, Hannah Grace (Luke) Settle and Adelaide Joy (Cory) Howard; her grandson, Andrey Nazarov Ballard; her cousins, Penny Wood and Jon Payne; and her dear friend, Cheryl Roberds; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Marilyn J. Smith and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Marilyn Smith as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
