HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Anna Peplowski on the occasion of being selected for the U.S. Women's National Swim Team to compete in the 2023 World Aquatics Championships; and

WHEREAS, The 2023 World Aquatics Championships will be held at Marine Messe Fukuoka in Fukuoka, Japan from July 14 to July 30, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Anna Peplowski is a native of Germantown Hills; she is the daughter of Doug and Leslie Peplowski, and she is the sibling of three sisters, Noelle, Ella, and Eva, and one brother, Jake; she is a graduate of Metamora Township High School, where she was a member of the girls swimming and diving team; and

WHEREAS, During her high school swim career, Anna Peplowski was named to the All-State first team in four events during her senior season, was the 100-yard freestyle state champion in Illinois, set three state records in Illinois, and was the school record holder in the 50-yard, 100-yard, and 200-yard freestyle events, the 100-yard backstroke, and a pair of relay events; she was also a qualifier for the 2020 Olympic Trials, and she was named the 2020-21 Journal Star Area Swimmer of the Year and 2020-21 Tri-County Female Athlete of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Anna Peplowski is currently a member of the women's swimming and diving team at Indiana University; during the 2021-22 season, she was named a two-time All-American, the 2022 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, and to the second-team of the All-Big Ten; during the 2022-23 season, she medaled in all seven events in which she competed, set the program record in the 200-yard free title, was named the 2023 Big Ten Swimmer of the Championships and to the first-team of the All-Big Ten, and placed in three Big Ten events, the 200-yard individual freestyle, the 200-yard individual backstroke, and the 800-yard free relay; and

WHEREAS, At the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, Anna Peplowski will serve as second alternate for the 200-yard relay event and has been assigned to swim in the preliminaries; and

WHEREAS, Anna Peplowski will be entering her junior year at Indiana University this fall; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Anna Peplowski on being selected for the U.S. Women's National Swim Team to compete in the 2023 World Aquatics Championships; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Anna Peplowski as an expression of our esteem and respect.
