SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Steven DeWayne Powers of rural Illinois City, who passed away on December 16, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Steven Powers was born to Dale Forrest and Charlotte (Poindexter) Powers in Muscatine, Iowa on October 14, 1948; he graduated from Columbus Community High School in 1967; he participated in many sports and clubs while in high school with his greatest accomplishment being making Eagle Scout in 1963; in the summer of 1967, he was drafted into the U.S. Marines but got lost while reporting for duty and started his service with the U.S. Army; he married Tonya Ann Garrett on December 12, 1970; and

WHEREAS, Steven Powers had a 22 year career in the Army; he retired in the winter of 1989 with the rank of Master Sergeant; once retired, he was called back to serve as the family liaison for the Muscatine National Guard; in 1992, he attended Davenport Barber College and started his barber career, which lasted until his retirement in November of 2020; and

WHEREAS, Steven Powers was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Charlotte Powers, and his sister, Cathy (Powers) Arola; and

WHEREAS, Steven Powers is survived by his wife, Tonya Powers; his son, Aaron (Wendy) Powers; his daughter, Tammy (Mike) Brown; his stepmother, Anna (Clark) Powers; his brother, Lonnie (Jackie) Powers; his eight grandchildren, Leighana Franks, Steven Franks, Krystina Franks, Jarrett Brown, Jennica Brown, Charles Powers, Daniel Powers and Erick Powers; his two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Walsh and one on the way; and his many friends and family; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Steven DeWayne Powers and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Steven Powers as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
