SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Marilyn Jo Eckles of Normal, who passed away on August 22, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles was born in Fort Collins, Colorado on August 9, 1930; she was the daughter of Herbert Stanley and Mary Irene McClelland Norlin; she married Charles "Ford" Eckles in Fort Collins on June 11, 1950; she earned her degree in Special Education from Illinois State University in 1970; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles developed a pre-school program at Sunnyside Center, where she created a curriculum and planned developmental activities for children of public housing and low-income families; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles authored children's books, including the well-known book, The Mending Tree; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles was very active in the Bloomington/Normal community; she was a 4H leader for about six years; she and her husband served as co-presidents of the Franklin School PTA; she was also a member of the League of Women Voters and served on several committees for the United Way; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles was an avid reader of mysteries, biographies, histories, and the classics; she was also interested in photography, her family's genealogy, and traveling with her husband; she loved spending time with her family; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles was preceded in death by her husband and her sisters, Ruth Everett and Margaret Lynn; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn Eckles is survived by her children, David (Eugenia) Eckles, M. Kathryn (Rick) Terven, Karen (Daryl) Ioerger, and Kristy (Morgan) Raines; her grandchildren, Katya Karina, Ricky (Michelle) Terven, Andrew (Amanda Trefzger) Terven, Wayne Terven, Adam Ioerger, Joshua (Erin Hall) Ioerger, Bret Ioerger, Jenna (Romel) Rehman, Gavin (Elizabeth) Raines, and Ryan (Megon) Raines; her granddaughter-in-law, Anne Terven; her 12 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Rosalie (Don) Defler; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Marilyn Jo Eckles and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Marilyn Eckles as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
